Kansas City Star Columnist asks, "Is Dennis Moore Getting Desperate?"

OVERLAND PARK, KAN. - 3rd Congressional District Candidate Nick Jordan is giving Dennis Moore the fight of his life and Moore has plenty of reasons to be worried.

Moore's answer to "The $64,000 Question" (about the money he received from bailout companies in the hours after he voted to bail them out with $700 billion in hardworking taxpayer money) has left people all over the 3rd District puzzled and angry. Moore claims the money came in after his vote to bail out failed financial institutions on Wall Street, which is exactly why people are so upset to begin with.

Dennis Moore is running out of excuses so he has resorted to negative smear ads, avoiding the media, backing out of a debate, and refusing to give answers about his part in the economic crisis; which is the biggest concern for all Americans.

The actions of Dennis Moore haven't escaped a Kansas City Star Columnist:

Dennis Moore goes negative

By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

"Is Dennis Moore getting desperate?

By now, the 3rd District U.S. House member ought to be coasting to another victory, as he has before. And he's usually running positive ads the last week of the campaign, sometimes even strumming a guitar.

But not in this race against Nick Jordan, the GOP's strongest challenger to Moore in a decade.

This weekend, Moore's campaign has been running attack ads against Jordan..."

Dennis Moore has a lot to run from and he knows it. For ten long years on the House Financial Services Committee Moore helped create the economic crisis by supporting policies that weakened oversight. He then voted for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout despite his constituents speaking out against it and the fact that no one else from Kansas voted for the flawed bill. Then, the revelation came that Dennis Moore has benefited from money coming from the failed financial institutions he voted to bail out.

It's time to "Wake up Washington" and fix our broken Congress and Nick Jordan is the man to do it. Steve Kraske of The Kansas City Star recently said that Jordan, "slapped Moore around in the last debate" and that he's "coming on like a runaway Mack truck."

Nick Jordan has a history of getting things done in the Kansas Senate over the last 13 years where he was known by former Governor Bill Graves as the "Velvet Hammer". Working across the aisle, and taking action run in Nick Jordan's blood and he's ready to fight for the 3rd district and "Wake up Washington" for America's future.

Dennis Moore Decides to Run Away from a 3rd Debate -- and then lies about it!

Both candidates vying for Kansas' 3rd Congressional District, Nick Jordan and Dennis Moore, agreed to 3 debates before Election Day on November 4th.

Unfortunately, Dennis Moore has decided to back out of the third scheduled debate to be hosted by the Kansas Farm Bureau -- and now he's lying about agreeing to it in the first place. What's wrong Dennis? Has Nick Jordan got you running scared?

Dennis Moore lies to voters in the 3rd District about his votes for "card check".

Dennis Moore blatantly lied to voters of the 3rd District on the radio last Friday saying that he was in favor of secret ballots for unions - when in fact he has co-sponsored a bill that would remove secret ballots and enable union bosses to use "card check" policies.

Dennis Moore's $64,000 Question

Did you know Dennis Moore was the only member of Congress from Kansas to vote for the flawed $700 billion bailout funded by taxpayer money?

Now we find out that within 48-hours of when Dennis voted for the flawed bailout of Wall Street, he took $64,000 in financial contributions from the same failed financial institutions.

They get $700 billion and within 48 hours Dennis gets $64,000. I guess they got a good investment on their money. So "The $64,000 Question" is this: Will Dennis return his tainted bailout money and restore voters' faith in the system?

Well Dennis? Kansas voters are waiting.

DENNIS MOORE TOOK $34,000 FROM FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS ON THE SAME DAY HE VOTED TO BAIL THEM OUT

For those of you who couldn’t be at today’s press conference, I want to share some of what was discussed.

First: Dennis Moore took nearly $34,000 in donations from financial institutions on the SAME DAY he voted to bail them out. That’s in addition to the $30,000 he has taken from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the nearly $2 million in financial institution money he taken over his ten years on the House Financial Services Committee

Second: In 2007, the House passed a bill to establish a new regulator for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. However, during consideration of this bill, Dennis Moore co-authored an amendment to limit the authority of the new regulator. The Wall Street Journal criticized the amendment that Dennis co-sponsored, argued for, and voted for. What was Dennis thinking?

NICK JORDAN RELEASES TV AD ON FAILURES OF DENNIS MOORE AND A BROKEN CONGRESS

Check out Nick Jordan’s new TV ad on Dennis Moore’s role in creating our country’s current economic mess.

Moore has been on the House Financial Services Committee for ten years, playing a role in the failure to provide proper oversight of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac while also encouraging them to increase their number of high risk loans.

And now that this housing house-of-cards is tumbling, Representative Moore has decided it’s more important to vote with Nancy Pelosi, who he votes with 97% of the time, than to join the rest of the Kansas Congressional Delegation in voting against a massive bailout bill that sticks taxpayers with the tab.

Kansans flooded Moore’s congressional office with phone calls against the bailout, but he turned a deaf ear to the will of responsible hardworking Americans.

NICK JORDAN’S STATEMENT ON DENNIS MOORE’S BAIL OUT

DENNIS MOORE AND CONGRESS CAUGHT PLAYING WITH MATCHES

Here are some excerpts from the statement Nick made about Dennis Moore voting in favor of today’s bail-out bill. Moore was the only member of the Kansas congressional delegation to vote for the bill. Here’s some of what Nick had to say:

“…Dennis Moore and Congress seem shocked to see flames engulfing our economy, after years of playing with matches. This was a vote to fix the mistakes of Congress and the House Financial Services Committee, which Dennis Moore has been a part of for the last ten years. This Committee is charged with the important duty of overseeing financial institutions like Freddie Mae & Fannie Mac and instead of being good stewards the Committee pushed Fannie & Freddie to increase toxic high risk loans, which are the central cause of our current economic mess.” - Nick Jordan

FOLLOW THE MONEY

There’s an old rule of thumb that says, “Follow the money.” Let’s try it out.

Dennis Moore has received over 2 million dollars from financial institutions, including nearly $30,000 from Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. He has also spent the past ten years on the committee charged with overseeing those institutions and others.

That committee’s failure to provide proper oversight created our current economic mess. Now, Moore has voted to spend $700 billion in taxpayer money to pay to fix his and Congress's mistakes.

Could it be that Dennis Moore, who received more money from Freddie Mac than the entire Kansas Congressional delegation combined, is being influenced by Washington lobbyists for these failed financial institutions?

This “follow the money” game is interesting.

DENNIS MOORE: 10-YEARS OF INACTION & BAD POLICIES - NOW IT'S TOO, LITTLE TOO LATE

The majority leader of congress was in town today for a Dennis Moore fundraiser—helping out a partisan ally despite the looming economic crisis, and the failure of Congress to act on a real solution to fix the problem their policies created.

Nick Jordan stopped by to hold a press conference outside the event, where he explained Moore’s and Congress’s many economic failures, and spoke the plain truth:

"Dennis Moore and our broken Congress have failed to hold these financial giants accountable. Now it's time to hold Dennis Moore and Congress accountable…Kansans need someone in Congress who will fight for every hard working taxpayer and not be afraid to hold people's feet to the fire." - Nick Jordan

A QUICK FIX IS NO FIX

Dennis Moore and Congress shouldn’t just vote for a quick fix. There are three basic principles that need to be addressed before anything is voted on:

1) Wall Street needs to take its lumps. Big wigs should not be allowed to make money on taxpayer dollars used to bail them out.

2) Any solution Moore agrees to needs to protect Kansas families who aren’t responsible for this mess.

3) Show prudence and don’t just rush headlong into a nearly trillion dollar bailout.

NICK JORDAN’S STATEMENT ON THE FINANCIAL CRISIS

Here are some key excerpts from today’s statement by Nick Jordan on America’s financial crisis:

“At the core of the financial problems facing our nation is the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These two government sponsored enterprises have been propped up by Congress for years. This includes Dennis Moore, who has served on the House Financial Services Committee for ten years and who’s received over $30,000 in contributions from them."

“After gimmicky accounting, Fannie and Freddie, through some strong lobbying succeeded in getting the ability to substantially increase the number of high-risk loans. This paved the way for the collapse of these government backed financial institutions that has brought us to where we are today.” - Nick Jordan

House Democrats are Returning Money from Charlie Rangel, Will Dennis Moore do the Same?

JORDAN CALLS ON MOORE TO RETURN RANGEL MONEY

Today, Nick placed a phone call to voters asking them to ask Dennis Moore about his continued support of New York Congressman Charlie Rangel, despite Rangel’s history of ethical problems.

Nick is also calling on Moore to return thousands of dollars in campaign contributions that have come from Rangel, following the lead of Iowa democrat Dave Loebsack who—according to a today story from Politico—has donated the $5000 he received from Rangel to various Iowa non-profit organizations.

Nick said, “Dennis Moore can no longer hide behind the protection of his own party. Now, even his democratic colleagues are acknowledging Rangel’s ethical lapses and giving away his donations. Time for Dennis Moore to step up and do the same.”

Dennis Supports Nancy Pelosi's Sham Energy Bill

Late last night after rejecting a comprehensive energy bill that had strong bipartisan support, Dennis Moore once again fell in line with his party leadership, voting in support of Nancy Pelosi’s sham energy bill. This bill imposes a permanent ban on off-shore drilling inside of 50 miles - where nearly 90% of American oil reserves exist.

With just days remaining before Congress’s Offshore Drilling Ban expires on September 30th, Nancy Pelosi and Dennis Moore figured out how to make the ban permanent while pulling the wool over the American people’s eyes.
